Join Jennifer Evans Arbo for a surface design and sgraffito carving workshop, finishing up by adding luster to your pieces. Decorate a one of a kind design into a vase shape of your choosing. Perfect to display those spring flowers in. Sgraffito means to “scratch” in Italian and workshop participants will draw and carve a design onto a vase shape of their choosing. Sgraffito involves removing layers of slip or underglaze from greenware to reveal the underlying clay body. Luster overglazes are made of actual gold which gives a fancy brilliance to the final finishes of your ceramic vase!
This is a two-day workshop: April 14 & 28
In the first session, Jennifer will demonstrate how she seeks out design inspiration, and how she applies 2-D design concepts to 3-D surfaces using the sgraffito method. After a short demonstration of Jennifer’s sgraffito process, participants will be provided with a tile for practice and a vase form to complete their project.
The second session will be two weeks later and will focus on overglaze luster techniques.
Some Clay experience required.
Tuition: $100 Members/$125 Non-Members
