119-Advanced Watercolor

Join watercolor artist Wendy Hallstrom for an engaging advanced class designed to help you refine your techniques and explore new creative possibilities. Through in-class demonstrations, guided exercises, and painting from photographs or still life, you’ll deepen your understanding of color, composition, and texture. Guidance will be tailored to your individual style, encouraging experimentation and helping you bring your most ambitious artistic ideas to life. Each session is an opportunity to challenge yourself, expand your creativity, and experience the joy and freedom of watercolor.

To help create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, we ask students to review and follow The Center's Policies and Procedures available on our website. Students who cannot comply with these guidelines may be asked to leave class, and refunds will not be issued in these cases. 

Materials

Plastic palette large, preferably with a lid
Brushes - a flat wash brush 3/4" to 1" wide and a large round size 10 or 12, and a smaller round size 6 or 7
Mounting board - if using loose sheets of paper
Painters tape - (blue house paint tape) for mounting loose sheets of paper
Paper - 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper, blocks are convenient for class work
Toilet tissue - better than paper towels for blotting & lifting
HB Pencil Eraser
Paint - recommended palette: Cadmium yellow Cadmium red Alizarin crimson Ultramarine blue Sap green Viridian green Raw sienna Burnt sienna Burnt umber Violet
Optional colors: Cerulean blue Payne’s gray Chinese or permanent white (gouache)
Optional supplies: White candle for paint resist
Masking fluid
Mr. Clean magic eraser

About the Instructor

Wendy Hallstrom

Wendy is a multidisciplinary artist in watercolor, acrylics, egg tempera and pysanky.  She has exhibited in New Jersey and the surrounding area, and her work is in private collections.  She teaches watercolor and pysanky (Ukrainian egg dying).
