Murmuration by Co11ective

Murmuration: a large group of starlings that swoops and swirls across the sky in shape-shifting clouds. Wonderfully uncanny, murmurations are a warp and weft of singularity and collectivity, each individual bird shaping the flock through a subtle attunement to adjacent birds that creates a synergistic whole.

This exhibition features the art of Co11ective, a group formed in 2020 and made up of eight artists from New Jersey, New York, and Aruba who work across a broad range of media and styles including sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, creative writing, video, installation, and interdisciplinary work. As a group of artists, we consider what the phenomenon of murmuration can teach us about collaboration: How can we make a body of work that is both greater than the sum of its parts and true to our individual practice? Inspired by the concept of murmuration, this group exhibition is comprised of individual pieces and collaborative works that come together as a whole.
