235-Soda Kiln Firing

In this 4 day workshop, students will explore the making and firing of work for a soda kiln. We will discuss clay bodies, glaze application and loading techniques. Students will then fire a converted electric kiln with soda and wood. We will discuss firing techniques and the workshop will culminate with unloading and discussion of results.

 

These sessions are scheduled on the following dates and times*:

  • Saturday, May 6-10:00am-12:00pm

About the Instructor

John Reinking

John Reinking is a functional and sculptural ceramicist living and working in Pittstown, NJ. A graduate of Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts, he also earned his MFA at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. John is currently an Adjunct Professor of Ceramics at Raritan Valley Community College, as well as the Ceramics Program Director at The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster. He is currently represented by Peter's Valley Craft Center in Layton, NJ, the Connections Gallery in Easton, PA, Creative Hands Gallery in Cape Cod, MA, and the Charlie Cummings Gallery in Gainesville, FL. His work has been exhibited at various venues across the country and most recently at Peter's Valley Craft Center in Layton, NJ and at The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster.
