“Wedding Rehearsal at the Palacio de Carlos V” by Howard Pohl

All of my gallery work is analog in nature, taken on black & white film and printed in my home darkroom of 35 years. When most of the world went digital, I stayed behind to capture the blacks, whites and grays. As a result, my imagery attempts to grasp texture, light, and contrast rather than dynamic color.

I travel to various locales, often on a random basis, and try to make art by photographing objects, people, or landscapes in an artistic manner. In 2015, a friend convinced me to show my work and since then, my work has appeared in 18 galleries from the Art League of Long Island to Arizona.

The world has become such a place of trauma, with authoritarians in power, police brutality, the dangers of climate change thrown in our faces repeatedly, so that my photography has also been transformed.  While I am still concerned with art and beauty, my goal is to document the cold reality and capturing the difficulties we face while maintaining the splendor within us.
