SUMMARY:Ink and Wash Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Line and wash is a watercolor technique that originated in China under the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). This style combines a line drawing with watercolor washes. The line is drawn first with a gel\, ink or micron pen\, then the watercolor paint is applied. Since a lot of the structure of the painting is established by the line drawing itself\, often all that is needed from the paint is a wash of color – hence the name\, line and wash. \nLine and wash is a technique often used for quick sketches in a sketchbook\, however it can also be used for a larger finished paintings. Buildings\, street scenes\, landscapes\, still life\, portraits and even flowers can be painted using line and wash technique. \nFor beginner to advanced students. \nTuition: Members $60/Non-Members $85 \nAbout the Instructor \nShyamal Raguso has a M.A. in Fine Arts and is an award winning artist who has exhibited at numerous galleries\, art shows\, and other public spaces. Raguso is a Fine Arts Professor at Raritan Valley Community College and Union College. She has also taught art to children and adults at The Whittemore\, The Morris County Art Workshop\, YMCA\, Chester Field House and gives private art lessons. Raguso was born in Bombay\, India\, and now lives and works in New Jersey with her husband and two children.  \n \n Click Here to Register

SUMMARY:Beginner Sgraffito
DESCRIPTION:Join Jennifer Evans Arbo for a surface design and sgraffito carving workshop. Carve a one of a kind design into a bowl shape of your choosing. \nSgraffito means to “scratch” in Italian and workshop participants will draw and carve a design onto a vase shape of their choosing. Sgraffito involves removing layers of slip or underglaze from greenware to reveal the underlying clay body. \nJennifer will demonstrate how she seeks out design inspiration\, and how she applies 2-D design concepts to 3-D surfaces using the sgraffito method. After a short demonstration of Jennifer’s sgraffito process\, participants will be provided with a tile for practice and a vase form to complete their project (made prior to the workshop by Jennifer). Participants will use underglazes and slips on their greenware ceramic piece during the session as they explore the sgraffito practice themselves. \nParticipants can choose designs provided by Jennifer or draw their own! \nNo experience required. Available for ages 14+ and adults. Make it into a teen and parent outing! \nTuition: Members $60/Non-Members $85 \nAbout the Instructor \nJennifer Evans Arbo is a Fine Arts Ceramicist and Photographer residing in New Jersey. Originally from California\, she traveled the world\, living in England\, Spain and Uruguay before landing on the East Coast. She has been teaching fashion to young adults and currently teaches beginner ceramics to adults and teens at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Bedminster\, NJ. \n\n \n Click Here to Register

SUMMARY:Sgraffito & Luster: Flower Stories
DESCRIPTION:Join Jennifer Evans Arbo for a surface design and sgraffito carving workshop\, finishing up by adding luster to your pieces. Decorate a one of a kind design into a vase shape of your choosing. Perfect to display those spring flowers in. Sgraffito means to “scratch” in Italian and workshop participants will draw and carve a design onto a vase shape of their choosing. Sgraffito involves removing layers of slip or underglaze from greenware to reveal the underlying clay body. Luster overglazes are made of actual gold which gives a fancy brilliance to the final finishes of your ceramic vase! \nThis is a two-day workshop: April 14 & 28 \nIn the first session\, Jennifer will demonstrate how she seeks out design inspiration\, and how she applies 2-D design concepts to 3-D surfaces using the sgraffito method. After a short demonstration of Jennifer’s sgraffito process\, participants will be provided with a tile for practice and a vase form to complete their project. \nThe second session will be two weeks later and will focus on overglaze luster techniques. \nSome Clay experience required.  \nTuition: $100 Members/$125 Non-Members \nAbout the Instructor \nJennifer Evans Arbo is a Fine Arts Ceramicist and Photographer residing in New Jersey. Originally from California\, she traveled the world\, living in England\, Spain and Uruguay before landing on the East Coast.
