SUMMARY:Paper Day: A Free Performance Art Event
DESCRIPTION:The Center will host Paper Day\, an immersive and participatory in-person or online performance art event that redefines the boundaries of art-making. \nThis special event is presented as part of the Murmuration exhibition by Co11ective. \nInspired by the ephemeral and transformative nature of everyday materials\, Paper Day invites participants to engage in a spontaneous exploration of creativity using an unexpected media. This performance transforms our outdoor grounds into a dynamic studio\, where participants\, adorned in white disposable gowns\, become both canvas and creator. With charcoal as a drawing tool and toilet paper as a sculptural material\, attendees are encouraged to experiment\, collaborate\, and express themselves freely. Watch as rolls of toilet paper take flight\, creating whimsical canopies over a central tent\, or as individual hands sculpt delicate and robust forms from the pulp. The event embraces the beauty of impermanence\, celebrating art that is made in the moment and reshaped by collective energy. \nFree Event \nHosted by Frank May \n \n \n \n \n \n Frank May is the owner and curator of M Galleries and M Galleries PNA (mgalleries.org) in Washington\, NJ. He is currently the apprentice of ceramic artist Peter Callas (petercallas.com). He is also on the faculty of the duCret Center of Art in Plainfield\, NJ (ducretarts.org)

SUMMARY:Gabriella D’Italia: Getting Dressed in the Dark
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: September 26\, 2025 from 6-8pm \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n “I focus on time as a material phenomena in various media\, often drawing inspiration from the natural environment. I use layering\, repetition\, and pattern across textiles\, mixed media on paper and canvas\, video\, and text. New patterns emerge from these processes. It is in these new patterns that I find the truth of all transformation\, a kind of material mantra\, and the possibility of a more human and interconnected understanding.” — Gabriella D’Italia \nGabriella D’Italia (she/her) is an interdisciplinary\, award-winning fine artist\, writer\, and Master Gardener. Her work explores home\, nature\, female identity and the contributions of these environments to our human wisdom and sustenance. She is best known for her highly inquisitive\, pro-craft\, feminist fiber works and multimedia collage. Her work has been exhibited at biennials\, salons\, embassies\, and galleries internationally. Her memoir\, Getting Dressed In The Dark\, An Artist’s Way Home\, is coming from Unsolicited Press\, October 2025. \nGabriella grew up in Morristown\, NJ. After receiving her BA in Philosophy and the History of Science and Mathematics through the Great Books program at St. John’s College\, she moved to Boston and then Maine\, where for two decades she immersed herself in costume design\, quilting\, leadership roles in nationally recognized fine craft organizations\, and teaching courses on creativity. She holds an MFA in Intermedia from the University of Maine\, Orono. She lives with her family and dogs in Morris County\, NJ. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Getting Dressed In The Dark\, An Artist’s Way Home\nby Gabriella D’Italia \n“Part candid memoir\, part philosophical meditation\, Getting Dressed in the Dark is both a daringly intimate exploration of one woman’s life\, love\, body\, and art while also grappling profoundly with how we collectively make\, resist\, and bend meaning in our larger cultural landscape. A book to be savored and re-read\, especially now.” \n— Gina Frangello\, author of Blow Your House Down: A Story of Family\, Feminism\, and Treason and Elena Ferrante: The Neapolitan Novels \n \n Order Your Copy Here

Wonderfully uncanny\, murmurations are a warp and weft of singularity and collectivity\, each individual bird shaping the flock through a subtle attunement to adjacent birds that creates a synergistic whole. \nThis exhibition features the art of Co11ective\, a group formed in 2020 and made up of eight artists from New Jersey\, New York\, and Aruba who work across a broad range of media and styles including sculpture\, painting\, drawing\, photography\, creative writing\, video\, installation\, and interdisciplinary work. As a group of artists\, we consider what the phenomenon of murmuration can teach us about collaboration: How can we make a body of work that is both greater than the sum of its parts and true to our individual practice? Inspired by the concept of murmuration\, this group exhibition is comprised of individual pieces and collaborative works that come together as a whole.\n \n \n \n \n \n Co11ective Members \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Katrina Bello\nBerendina Buist\nJoseph Castronova\nNova Darkstar \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Frank May\nWes Sherman\nElie Porter Trubert\nKatie Truk \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Murmuration by Co11ective Events\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist Panel Discussion\nSaturday\, October 253:00-4:30pm \n\n\n\nExhibition walk through and discussion with the Co11ective artists of Murmuration. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Group Critique\nSunday\, November 910:00am-12:00pm \n\nCritique by Co11ective artists of Murmuration.All artists ages 12+ are welcome! \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n These events are free and open to the public. \n

SUMMARY:Linda Mead: In Disarray
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Friday\, September 26 from 6-8pm \nCurated by Elie Porter Trubert \nClick Here to Read Curator Statement \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n In Disarray explores feelings of impermanence\, fragility and unease through imagery combining intaglio printmaking processes and drawing. The works portray a world of chaos while also inviting the viewer to take a closer look and\, perhaps\, find some beauty in the fray. \nClick Here to Read Linda Mead Artist Statement \n \n \n \n \n \n Linda Mead was born in Washington\, DC\, grew up in Northern Virginia and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. She relocated to Germany where she lived for 11 years before moving to Morristown\, New Jersey in 2002. In 2007 she began etching at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. \nOriginally\, Mead’s areas of concentration were jewelry and textile design. After spending many years as a painter\, she returned to working with metal\, etching images in copper plates and working primarily as a printmaker. Her work reflects a sense of unease triggered by the precarious state of the world and the consequences of human behavior. \nShe had her first solo exhibition\, Expand\, Disrupt\, Disperse\, at Guttenberg Arts (2022)\, Her group shows include: Nothing is Forever\, Grover House Gallery\, Caldwell\, NJ (2023)\, Made Here\, Guttenberg Arts\, (2021)\, “A New Century of War” Frontline Arts\, Branchburg NJ\, (2017). In addition\, she has exhibited with the Book Arts Roundtable (2011-2020). Her work also appears in Booked exhibition catalogs. \nMead received a 2024 fellowship in Printmaking\, Drawing and Book Arts from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and was an artist-in-residence at Guttenberg Arts in 2021.
