A former Home Economics teacher\, she has worked with batik and weaving which evolved into folk art quilts and a love of the modern art quilt movement. \nIn the late 90’s\, her work centered on abstract expressionism using dyed natural material and surface design\, creating gentle tonal contrasts and layers that interact with each other. Her method of direct cutting\, without the use of patterns\, was innovative at that time. Her work continues to evolve through experimentation. \nSince the early 2000s\, her work includes photography\, printed\, or transferred onto fabric\, paper or created and mixed media substrates. \nShe has created several innovative digital fiber techniques. Holographic Images presents multiple layered pieces of photographs printed on silk organza and borders of painted and surface designed fabrics. She has won awards in 10 exhibitions in the last 10 years\, including 1st Place in the “10th Annual Glass International” at the Workhouse Arts Center in Virginia in 2024. Also in 2024\, Jennifer’s sculpture “Summer Rain” was one of 100 works from around the world accepted into “New Glass Review 44” published by the Corning Museum of Glass. \nJennifer was one of 30 international artists to be featured in the book Sculpture and Design with Recycled Glass by Cindy Ann Coldiron (Schiffer Publishing\, 2011). In 2006\, her commissioned outdoor sculpture for the Village of Brockport\, Les Racines et les Raisons (The Roots and the Reasons) was dedicated in Remembrance Park. In 2004\, she completed a significant commission for a three-part\, site-specific sculpture for Christ Church in Pittsford\, New York. After her 4 year apprenticeship she became “inchininmae” and was given her own symbol as a mark of pottery mastery. The signature is derived from her last name and the Japanese kanji for water well. Spend some time experimenting with various materials and techniques including: sightless contour and drawing while blindfolded. Use traditional drawing utensils as well as twigs\, yarns\, pine needles\, etcetera. Instructor will bring an array of materials. Students may also bring their own. \nTuition: Members: $69/Non-Members: $94 \nAbout the Instructor \nLinda Mead was born in Washington\, DC\, grew up in Northern Virginia and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. She relocated to Germany where she lived for 11 years before moving to Morristown\, New Jersey in 2002. In 2007 she began etching at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. Originally\, Mead’s areas of concentration were jewelry and textile design. After spending many years as a painter\, she returned to working with metal\, etching images in copper plates and working primarily as a printmaker. Her work reflects a sense of unease triggered by the precarious state of the world and the consequences of human behavior. She had her first solo exhibition\, Expand\, Disrupt\, Disperse\, at Guttenberg Arts (2022)\, Her group shows include: Nothing is Forever\, Grover House Gallery\, Caldwell\, NJ (2023)\, Made Here\, Guttenberg Arts\, (2021)\, “A New Century of War” Frontline Arts\, Branchburg NJ\, (2017). In addition\, she exhibited in group exhibits with the Book Arts Roundtable (2011-2020). Her work also appears in Booked exhibition catalogs. She has exhibited her work throughout the US and internationally and is represented by Pictor Gallery in New York City. In 2023\, Jordan curated and presented in the national exhibition\, INQUESTtigation: Women at the Intersections of Art and Science. She is the recipient of a 2024 New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship\, Manifest Gallery’s Season 20 Grand Jury Award\, and a Ford Foundation Award. Her drawings are in the collections of the Walter Piehl Gallery\, Flat Tail Press Gallery\, and ArtHouse6 Gallery. She has a PhD in Art History. Her curatorial resume includes major projects with publications such as George Segal: Themes and Variations; Angela Davis: Seize the Time; Subjective Objective: A Century of Social Photography; Striking Resemblance: The Changing Art of Portraiture; Guerrilla (and other) Girls: Art/Activism/Attitude; at/around/beyond: Fluxus at Rutgers;  and Images of the World Between: The Circus in Twentieth- Century American Art. She has also organized one-person exhibitions with Alonzo Adams\, Diane Burko\, Lalla Essaydi\, Jesse Krimes\, Jim Toia\, Rachel Perry\, and group shows that featured the work of contemporary artists Yana Bystrova\, LaToya Frazier\, Coco Fusco\, Steffani Jemison\, Bonnie Lucas\, Sheila Pepe\, Juan Sanchéz\, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith\, Joan Snyder\, Bently Spang\, and Renée Stout\, among others.
