SUMMARY:Christine Sauerteig-Pilaar: To Bare Witness
DESCRIPTION:Opening: Friday\, April 5 from 6-8pm \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n  \nChristine Sauerteig-Pilaar is a contemporary artist living and working in New Jersey. Her compelling and emotional artworks look to speak to the primitive side of the human existence and how that relates to modern day life. Sauerteig-Pilaar focuses on the female form as her muse\, mostly conjured from self-portraits\, where she utilizes her body to manipulate feelings of a quiet rage within women in the more domestic interiors of lives not usually viewed as remarkable or unique. She works to search out the uniting thread of feminism in the dark spaces of suburban life\, and looks to thrust the spotlight on the unsaid struggles and betrayals of women in our current society. \nSauerteig-Pilaar received her BFA from Parson’s School of Design in 1993\, and after living in New York City\, relocated to New Jersey where she has continuously experimented with mediums that led to the eclectic mixed media paper constructions she is most notably recognized for. Her work has been showcased and celebrated in galleries and museums across the country. She was awarded the Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation residency in Jersey City\, NJ in 2022. \nClick Here to Read Christine Sauerteig-Pilaar’s Artist Statement

SUMMARY:Ink and Wash Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Line and wash is a watercolor technique that originated in China under the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). This style combines a line drawing with watercolor washes. The line is drawn first with a gel\, ink or micron pen\, then the watercolor paint is applied. Since a lot of the structure of the painting is established by the line drawing itself\, often all that is needed from the paint is a wash of color – hence the name\, line and wash. \nLine and wash is a technique often used for quick sketches in a sketchbook\, however it can also be used for a larger finished paintings. Buildings\, street scenes\, landscapes\, still life\, portraits and even flowers can be painted using line and wash technique. \nFor beginner to advanced students. \nTuition: Members $60/Non-Members $85 \nAbout the Instructor \nShyamal Raguso has a M.A. in Fine Arts and is an award winning artist who has exhibited at numerous galleries\, art shows\, and other public spaces. Raguso is a Fine Arts Professor at Raritan Valley Community College and Union College. She has also taught art to children and adults at The Whittemore\, The Morris County Art Workshop\, YMCA\, Chester Field House and gives private art lessons. Raguso was born in Bombay\, India\, and now lives and works in New Jersey with her husband and two children.  \n \n Click Here to Register

I’m Jay\, it’s great to meet you. I’m originally from the city of St. Louis\, but I moved to New Jersey in 2016. My love for comics and manga started early\, daily I would read manga like Inuyasha and comics like Batman and The Flash. It didn’t take long for me to start creating my own characters and the stories behind them. Recently I graduated from the School of Visual Arts where I was pursuing my passion for comics. There I learned a great deal of Art History\, Everything comics\, the basics of puppetry\, 2D animation and so much more. I believe that comic creation is not only a fun art form\, but a great outlet and learning tool. My love for storytelling and character creation is what drives me to share my knowledge and craft with equally passionate students. I can’t wait to get to know you and your stories.
