451-The October Garden

Gardens are still going strong in October. We’ll use seasonal flowers to review the fundamentals of drawing, design, and color and end up with a floral still life in watercolor.  Bring your own flowers and I’ll bring flowers as well.

All levels.

Special Notes

All students must comply with the Policies and Procedures found on The Center's website. There will be no refunds for students removed from class for failure to observe The Center’s Policies and Procedures.

Materials

• 140 lb cold press Arches WATERCOLOR PAPER, cut or torn to 11 x 15” or a 9 x 12” cold press block. A small watercolor sketchbook is handy for experimenting and taking notes. I use a Canson Montval Field Watercolor ArtBook, 7 x 10”.

• Nos. 8, 10 and 12 round brushes. My current favorite brand is Silver Black Velvet. They are a mix of squirrel and synthetic.
• Small stiff synthetic flat for lifting.
• Rigger brush for spattering
• Sea sponge
• Kosher Salt

Winsor & Newton, Sennilier, Holbein, and Daniel Smith are all excellent watercolor brands. If you are new to watercolor and are not ready to make an investment in professional paint, use W&N Cotman paint. Suggested COLORS:
• Cadmium yellow or cad yellow light
• Aureolin or Winsor lemon or Permanent Lemon
• Quinacridone Gold • Raw Sienna or Yellow Ochre
• Burnt Sienna
• Cadmium red or Cadmium red light or Winsor Red
• Quinacridone Rose or Permanent Rose
• Alizarin Crimson • Mineral Violet (Holbein)
• Ultramarine Blue
• Cerulean or Cobalt Turquoise Light
• Cobalt
• Winsor (phthalo) Blue
• Winsor (phthalo) Green
• Opaque White
• Palette for your paint.

• Mixing tray. Small butcher trays are ideal. Porcelain dishes are great too.
