Sat., April 20:
Students will be introduced to various tools and materials required to construct elementary forms with Sculpey. This will include a single color clay Sculpey used to sculpt fundamental shapes such as spheres, cylinders, and other three dimensional forms. Clay sculpting tools, including rollers, clay extruders, texture plates, and cutting devices will be incorporated into the process. By joining and merging individual shapes, students will construct more elaborate objects. This will include elementary simple animal figures or more challenging detailed human figures, depending on the students’ individual comfort level.
Sat. Apr. 27:
Having been introduced to the basics, students will progress to more advanced projects. This will include creative armatures or fillers comprised of aluminum foil and toothpicks employed to create the internal mass of the sculptures around which the clay will be formed. This will help economize the quantity of the clay required, and help in firmly joining individual pieces into more complex forms. Subsequently, the smaller color clay samples will be joined by various means, resulting in complex and colorful patterns. These patterns will be employed in the adornment of the previously completed sculptures, such as attire for human figures, formation of flower vases, or simple colorful imaginary animals. Specific objects will be tailored to the skills or interests of individual students, as the process allows for a high degree of adaptability and flexibility.
NOTE: This workshop is recommended for families, adults with a child. All levels welcome.
