Art for Children with ASD and Special Needs
The Center for Contemporary Art’s Art for Special Needs Children class provides needed access to creative art experiences for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other special needs. The arts provide an invaluable avenue of self-expression for children with limited or no verbal communication, and because of heightened sensory needs, they often respond well to the multi-sensory stimulation and the hands-on approach inherent in art.
Since 2011, funding from Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has allowed The Center to annually offer a one-on-one art class in partnership with Bernards Township Parents of Exceptional Children free of charge or for reduced tuition to participants. The Center has expanded the program in order to provide year-round classes and will offer these at a discounted rate.
